The Seventh Door
The Seventh Door is my feminist retelling of Bluebeard, where seven doors become allegorical family scenes—chair, cabinet, bed, washing machine, dressing table, sofa, wardrobe. They are everyday furniture yet “invisible cages,” symbolizing women’s disciplined roles in marriage and family. Inspired by my mother’s 28-year marriage and my childhood in a furniture store, I use “furniture–door–dancer’s body” as a narrative form. Through layered colored pencils and toners, I explore the threshold between confinement and self-redemption.
In the imagery of The Seventh Door, I hope to convey the “power to open the door”—women need not wait passively, but can awaken and save themselves.
